On November 10, Adam Miller will open his solo show, “Among the Ruins,” at Copro Gallery in Santa Monica alongside two other solo shows by Christian Rex van Minnen (previewed here) and Billy Norrby. Miller’s post-apocalyptic series of paintings features romantic scenes of disaster that seem at once primitive and contemporary. His nude figures’ idealized bodies lie supine, reminiscent of the poses in Renaissance-era paintings that took inspiration from Greek and Roman mythology. The edges of the figures and landscapes appear blurred with a dusty color palette that creates a hazy ambiance. Relying heavily on body language, the paintings tell stories of love and compassion in the face of adversity as we see the figures nurturing one another in attempts to recover after the fall of civilization. Take a look at some of the paintings in the show, images courtesy of Copro Gallery.
